Are EV charging stations mandatory for housing companies in Finland?

Electric-vehicle charging points and charging-ready provisions are mandatory in new buildings and residential buildings undergoing extensive renovation. The Charging Stations and Automation Act came into force on November 11, 2020, imposing significant obligations regarding installing EV charging stations and pre-installing charging infrastructure in new construction projects.

In addition, any major refurbishment of existing residential buildings must comply with the new legislation’s requirements. For non-residential buildings undergoing extensive renovation, the obligations to install charging stations and charging-ready wiring must be fulfilled by the end of 2024 at the latest. All housing companies should consider this legislation and begin planning to implement charging-ready parking spaces.
